There are a lot of options for entertainment, relaxation or adventure during the summer in Door County, but if you’re looking to take a dip, cool off or try some water sports — we are surrounded by water on three (or is it two because we’re a peninsula?) sides – check out these public beaches.

Located in Peninsula State Park, Nicolet Beach’s swimming area has a snack bar, sand for sunbathing, and kayak and other watercraft rentals. There’s a boat launch nearby for anyone looking to explore the state park’s eight miles of shoreline by motor boat, sailboat, kayak or canoe. The beach area also features picnic spots, playgrounds and sand volleyball courts.

Waterfront Park has more than 1,900 feet of water frontage, with 600 feet of that being a sandy beach. The Sister Bay park’s playground has been rated Door County’s best, and there’s also a gazebo, picnic areas, and large grassy areas for family events and activities. Kayaks and paddleboards are also available for rentals at a public launch.

Just down from downtown Egg Harbor, Egg Harbor Beach has all-new floating docks with electricity, water, cable TV and WiFi. There’s also a public boat launch, plenty of parking, and a sandy beach with pavilions, a playground area and restrooms.

A half-acre park located in Fish Creek is a popular spot in the summer, with a playground and sand beach for building sandcastles. Beach goers can access this family-friendly spot off Highway 42 in downtown Fish Creek.

Schoolhouse Beach on Washington Island may be one of the most unique beaches in Door County, because it’s one of five beaches in the world that are part of the Niagara Escarpment. The beach offers excellent swimming conditions in the protected harbor area that was originally a shipping port.

There are two hidden gems in the Liberty Grove area that offer sandy beaches. Sand Bay Town Park also has plenty of room for summer activities, swings and BBQs for picnics. Ellison Bay Community Park has tennis courts, a playground, picnic tables, BBQs and plenty of grass to spread out on after a day of swimming.

No matter what part of Door County you’re looking to explore by water, Bay Shore Inn is the perfect spot to relax in between outings. We even have our own private sand beach for you to add to the list when you’re staying with us!
