3 Unique Ways to Enjoy Fall Colors in Door County

Door County is known for something in every season. The lively atmosphere in the summer. The perfect cozy vibes in winter. Blossoming wild flowers in the spring. Autumn might be our favorite season here at Bay Shore Inn because it’s leaf peeping season!

If you’re planning a trip to visit us this fall, the first thing to do is to check the color report. Make sure you’re going to be seeing the most spectacular colors by planning your trip around your desired temperature and, while the days are getting shorter, make sure you maximize the daylight by visiting a couple of these great fall color viewing spots!

Take a Drive on the Door County Coastal Byway

The Door County Coastal Byway is a 66 mile loop of road that shows off the best of the natural gems here in Door County: views of Lake Michigan, Green Bay, the Niagara Escarpment bluffs, and access to many of our state parks, nature preserves, and beaches.

The winding road is perfect for a leisurely drive, but you should also consider stopping in any of the adorable waterfront towns that have built up on the route. You will not be disappointed in the shopping selection or tasty restaurant options!

Get a View from Above the Door County Canopy

If you need to stretch your legs a bit, we recommend the views from above the trees. There are three lookout towers in Door County that provide excellent panoramic views. The Mountain Park Tower, located on Washington Island, has 186 steps. The Potawatomie Tower, an historical landmark, has around 100 steps. Last but not least, Eagle Tower, in Peninsula State Park has 95 stairs or a fully accessible 850 ft. ramp that takes you to the top while winding through the forest. We promise that the trek to the top of these towers won’t take your breath away more than the views will!

Drink in the Door County Colors from the Water!

If you’re yearning for the wind in your hair and a sea breeze, we cannot recommend the Washington Island Ferry enough. Besides the chance to visit the island itself and take a Cherry Train Tour on an open air tram (a great way to see leaves in itself), the Ferry shows off the Door County coastline in a unique and absolutely awe inspiring way.

We might be biased, but some of the best leaf peeping is just outside the windows of your room right here at Bay Shore Inn! Book with us this fall and wake up to the colors of a sunrise without having to get up at dawn.
